Doing basement remodel, above fireplace (behind chimney) i noticed moisture at rim joist, on the exterior where the chimney butts up against the house there is aging and absent caulk/sealant. Should i re-caulk these sections ? what type to use ? should i use flashing ? i will also be checking the flashing around the chimney on roof Also, there is no chimney cap but will be soon, no apparent damage to any bricks or mortar on chimney.
